Advancing Skills, Supporting Global Service: BAIC FOTON Bus Global Service Team Completes Headquarters Training Program

As the global passenger transport market continues to evolve, industry competition is shifting from vehicle delivery alone toward broader capabilities in lifecycle services. BAIC FOTON continues to advance its global bus strategy, drawing on its understanding of diverse local operating scenarios. A range of FOTON bus models have been introduced in overseas markets and are now serving local passenger transport networks.

High-quality products entering overseas markets mark only the beginning of global expansion. Strong after-sales service capabilities are equally important for building a sustainable presence in international markets. To further strengthen the technical capabilities of local maintenance teams and support a more systematic approach to vehicle servicing, BAIC FOTON invited 15 technical specialists from bus service providers across nine countries—Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Chile, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Costa Rica, Laos, and Serbia—to Beijing for a week-long customized technical training program.

The classroom training covers two key areas: conventional powertrains and new energy technologies. For conventional powertrains, the curriculum includes Yuchai and FOTON Cummins engines, FAST transmissions, and key maintenance practices for Songz air-conditioning systems. For new energy vehicles, the training focuses on core electric powertrain components, including power batteries, BMS, PEU, and drive motors, with instruction on high-voltage operations and safe charging procedures. The program also includes hands-on practice with G-IDE and new energy diagnostic tools. Combined with common fault cases from overseas markets, the training helps participants develop a standardized and systematic approach to fault diagnosis.

Hands-on bench training strengthens practical skills and improves maintenance expertise.

In the training workshop, participants work in organized groups to practice engine and transmission disassembly and assembly, as well as fault diagnosis. Instructors provide on-site demonstrations of component servicing procedures and key inspection points, helping participants address common maintenance challenges and turn theoretical knowledge into practical repair skills. With dedicated training facilities, professional tools and equipment, and standardized service procedures, overseas participants gain hands-on experience with BAIC FOTON’s professional maintenance and service standards.

Hands-on training with real vehicles in practical settings helps improve vehicle maintenance and operational capabilities.

During the hands-on vehicle training session, the instructor used a bus to demonstrate maintenance procedures and troubleshooting methods for the powertrain and electrical systems. Participants observed the service process up close and discussed real operational issues encountered in local markets. The session helped strengthen their vehicle maintenance and emergency troubleshooting capabilities, while supporting efforts to reduce downtime and related operational losses.

At the same time, a series of technical workshops were held during the training, focusing on developing tailored maintenance solutions for complex operating conditions in overseas markets. Participants noted that the structured courses helped address many practical questions encountered in frontline maintenance work. Toward the end of the program, a dedicated technical assessment was conducted to evaluate learning outcomes, and all participants successfully completed the certification.

At the training completion ceremony, BAIC FOTON presented training certificates to participants who successfully completed the program. Technical professionals from different countries also shared their training experiences, noting the practical value and professional structure of the courses. Participants said that the combination of classroom learning and hands-on vehicle training at FOTON headquarters helped strengthen their local maintenance capabilities and address practical technical challenges. After returning home, they plan to apply the standards, maintenance methods, and practical skills learned during the program to their daily vehicle service and maintenance work, helping support the reliable operation of local passenger transport fleets.

Overseas operators and local technical teams who participated in the training spoke positively of the course structure, hands-on sessions, and instructor support. Building on this program, BAIC FOTON will establish a regular training mechanism and continue to provide a range of capability-building programs, including training at its headquarters in China, regional centralized training, and on-site local training. These initiatives are designed to support the long-term development of technical training and strengthen local service capabilities. The technical personnel who complete the program will serve as key local resources, helping to share professional service knowledge and experience within their teams. Going forward, BAIC FOTON will further develop a structured, tiered training system, cultivate local technical and management talent, and continuously refine maintenance standards, spare parts support, and after-sales response networks to better suit local operating conditions. At the same time, successful practices from key markets will be adapted and extended to surrounding regions, supporting the continued enhancement of FOTON Bus’s capabilities and competitiveness in global markets.
